How Does CareSpark Help Me?

You probably go to more than one place for your healthcare.  In most cases, it’s important for your doctor to know about the care you receive from others. Currently, your healthcare professionals share your health records through methods such as mailing or faxing.  With your permission, your doctor can quickly and easily view your health records electronically from other participating providers through CareSpark, without waiting for paper or fax copies – saving time and money for you and your doctors.   

**There is no cost to the patient or to the healthcare provider to participate in CareSpark**

How Will My Health Records Be Kept Private?

Your health information will be stored in your health provider’s system (as it is now), and you must allow it to be shared electronically before a copy can be sent to anyone through CareSpark’s secure network.  Only doctors, nurses or other authorized staff can access the CareSpark network, after having first signed an agreement to abide by all federal and state laws regulating patient privacy and confidentiality, and then receiving an individual user name and password by which their access to records can be audited. When someone requests information about you, CareSpark first checks to see if you have any records available for that authorized user, and if so, releases it to the requester, keeping an automatic record that this occurred.

Your health information is not available for view by:

·         The public

·         Doctors or other health professionals that are not authorized 

While participation in CareSpark can help improve the care you receive, participation is voluntary and you can change your mind at anytime.  Check with your healthcare providers to see if they participate, and let them know of your desire for your records to be shared (or not!).
